Austin Rice Brown, 86, of Clay died at 11:43 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, 2008, at Shemwell Nursing Home in Providence. He was born Sept. 25, 1921, in Webster County. He was a farmer, World War II veteran and a lifetime member of VFW Post No. 5484 in Providence. He was also a member of American Legion in Clay and a ditch commissioner in Webster County. He was also a member of the NRA and Fairview Church of Christ in Dixon. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Roseann Brown, in 1947; and his wife, Wilma Joan Brown, in 2005.
Survivors include two daughters, Judith Joan Brown of Owensboro and E. Carolyn Brown Tucker of Dixon; three brothers, Johnny Brown of Madisonville and Billy and Bobby Brown, both of Dixon; a sister, Juanita Nally of Clay; two grandchildren, Tarrolyn Newton of Fort Worth, Texas, and Tami Simpson of Bowling Green; and six great-grandchildren, Allen Clark, Blake Newton, Brookolyn Newton, Colby Clark, Jeremiah Simpson and Nathan Simpson.
Services are at 2 p.m. today at Townsend Funeral Home in Dixon. Minister Rex Childs will be officiating. Visitation is after 8 a.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Fairview Cemetery in Dixon.
