Eugene F. Alheit, 85, of Elyria, passed away Saturday, April 6, 2013 at his home, following a brief illness. He was born January 28, 1928 in Elyria and was a lifelong Elyria resident.

Eugene worked for many years at the Thew Shovel Co. in Lorain, where he retired as a expediter. Following his retirement he worked as a zone manager for the Lawson Milk Co.. He was a WWII Army veteran, a member of the American Legion Post 12, enjoyed going to casinos and woodworking and was an avid Cleveland sports fan.

Survivors include his daughters, Linda Reaser of Grafton and Marsha Driggers of Elyria; sons, Gary (Robin) Alheit, Sr., Randy (Joyce) Alheit, Dale (Julie) Alheit, all of Elyria and Jeff Alheit of Grafton; many grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; brother, Don Alheit of Elyria; numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara (nee Pasenow) in 1996; granddaughter, Dayle Alheit; and brothers, Doug and Edward Alheit.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, April 10, 2013 from 4 to 7 P.M. at the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at State Rt. 57), Elyria. Services will be Thursday, April 11, 2013 at 11 A.M. in the funeral home. The Rev. Chuck Behrens will officiate. Burial will be at Brookdale Cemetery, Elyria.
