Deputy Jones age 53, a resident of Rockwood Tennessee was killed in the line of duty while serving as a Deputy Sheriff with the Roane County Sheriffs Department on Thursday, May 11,2006, near Kingston Tennessee. He was born in Canton Mississippi. Deputy Jones long time career in Law Enforcement included service as a Sergeant with the Rockwood Police Department; a Deputy with the Cumberland County Sheriffs Department; and a Patrol Officer with Crossville Police Department. He was a member of the Mountain View Baptist Church in Crossville Tennessee and the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #69 in Midtown, Tennessee. He was a Sergeant with the United States Marine Corps in the Vietnam Conflict and also served as a Ranger with the United States Army. He will be missed terribly by all who knew him. The two men both brothers ambushed Deputy Jones and shot him with high powered rifles 33 times killing him and his ride along partner former deputy Michael Brown. Both officers died in their patrol car.
