Peter J. Artello

Peter J. Artello, 91, of Albion, passed away Tuesday, October 25, 2011, at St. Vincent Health Center. He was born October 10, 1920 in Albion, son of the late John and Katherine Artello.

Peter retired from the Bessemer & Lake Erie Railroad where he worked as a car man. He also worked construction and worked on his brother's potato farm.

Peter was a member of the Civil Defense for many years and was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Albion and the Cranesville Fire Department. He enjoyed bowling in a league for 30 years, going to auctions with his wife, hunting, fishing (especially his fishing trips to Canada), and he was a golden glove boxer in his younger years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Artello, in 1987; a son-in-law, Fred Rood; a grandson, Brian Rood; a sister, Katherine Cherry; and four brothers, John, William, Nick, and George Artello.

He is survived by a son, James Artello of Albion; two daughters, Dorothy Rood of Cranesville and Nancy Roberts and her husband, Bruce, of Albion; a sister, Mary Egli of Albion; seven grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Mattera Funeral Home, Albion, on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A prayer service will be held at the funeral home on Monday at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Lawrence Catholic Church with Fr. Philip Oriole officiating.

Burial will follow in Albion Cemetery.
