April 9, 1924 May 9, 2003

YAKIMA - Eunice (Kappy) was born on April 9, 1924 to Robert Tato and Katie Liloa Mahalo Kapuniai in Waimea, Kauai, Hawaii. She was raised in Makaweli, Kauai, along with her siblings Robert, Paul, Lawrence (Booty), May, Katherine (Nani) and George. She passed away on May 9, 2003 in her home in Yakima, WA.

Her adult life began when she decided to become a nurse in the fall of 1941. During her training in Honolulu, she witnessed the beginning of World War II at Pearl Harbor and joined the Army (WAC) in 1943. During that time she nursed a soldier named Wilfred Ableidinger back to health.

Later, on December 24th, 1945, Kappy became Mrs. Wilfred Ableidinger in Fort Collins, CO. During her enlistment she received a World War II Victory medal, American Campaign medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign medal and a Good Conduct medal.
Kappy was a true adventurer and devoted mother and wife. After serving in WWII, her travels took her to Colorado Springs, CO where her first son Robert (Bob) was born. Back to Fort Collins and the birth of her second son, Dale. Kappy then went to her native land in Hawaii for the birth of her first daughter, Marlace (Hon Hon). Onward from Hawaii to Rawlins, WY and the birth of her third son Kenneth (Peewee). Another move brought her to Casper, WY where second daughter, Katie, was born. Finally Kappy and Wilfred (Willie) settled in Yakima, WA where her third daughter Elaine (Lani) was born.

Kappy and Willie recently celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary in Yakima. Kappy was a wonderful mother, confidant friend and wife we miss her dearly.

Her hobbies included arrowhead hunting, bowling, square dancing, camping, fishing, playing cards, traveling, hula and throwing luaus. She loved to be around people and loved celebrating life and having fun. Kappy coached bowling for 15 years and was an active participant in the Veterans Day celebration. She was a lifetime member of the VFW post 379, and belonged to both the VFW Woman's Auxiliary and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Woman's Auxiliary.

She is survived by her husband, Willie Ableidinger; children Bob, Dale, Peewee, Katie Walker and Lani Faye; grandchildren Doug, Dawn, Andrea, Bree, John, Lisa and Rachael;great-grandchildren Cody, Dillon, Kegan; brothers Robert and Paul Kapuniai and sister Nani Pahnka.
