Paul L. Barr, 84, of Wadestown, died Thursday, May 24, 2001, en route to a doctor's appointment in Blacksville. He was born June 26, 1916, at Cross Roads, son of the late Harley and Stella Britton Barr. He was a graduate of Fairmont State College, West Virginia University and the University of Pittsburgh. He was a schoolteacher for more than 50 years, having taught at Wadestown, Clay-Battelle, Daybrook and Osage, serving as principal at Wadestown for several years. He taught Sunday school for more than 60 years, and was a member and lay leader of the Wadestown United Methodist Church. He also served in the U.S. Army in Europe. He was a member of the Wadestown Crusader IOOF Lodge 422, and was a member of the Monongalia County, West Virginia and national Retired Teachers' associations. He was formerly on the board of directors at the Clay-Battelle Community Health Center. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Violet Tennant Barr; a son, David Barr, of Elkins; a daughter and spouse, Joyce and Gene Hebb, of Fairmont; three brothers and a spouse, Chester Barr, of Clarion, Pa., Frank and Hazel Barr, of Morgantown, and Jack Barr, of Sharon, Pa.; two sisters, Ethel Wilson, of Washington, Pa., and Virginia Michael, of Grove City, Pa; two sisters-in-law, Velma Barr, of Inglewood, Fla., and Rose Barr, of Woodsfield, Ohio; four grandchildren and spouses, Diana and Mark Brady, Deana and Dan Corley, Mike Hebb and Ruth Hebb; 12 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. He was also preceded in death by a son, John Pual Barr, in 1969; and two brothers, Robert Dale Barr and Stanley Barr. Friends may call at Owen-Neely Funeral Home, Blacksville, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Saturday. Service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 27, with Rose Saunders officiating. Burial will be in Wadestown Cemetery.
