Reverend John S. Ahern, son of James and Anna Ahern died Friday, Dec. 7, 2012 at CT.Hospice. Father Ahern was born in New Haven on Dec. 28, 1925. He entered St. Thomas Seminary in 1946 and completed his studies at Christ the King Seminary, St. Bonaventure University. He was ordained by the Most Reverend Archbishop Henry J. O'Brien on May 27, 1954 in St. Joseph's Cathedral. Fr. Ahern served at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Washington Depot, St. Mary's, Unionville, St. Patrick and St. Anthony, Hartford, St. Mary's, Newington, St. Michael's. Beacon Falls, Immaculate Conception, Norfolk and Church of Good Shepherd, Seymour.
Father Ahern is survived by his brother, Donald (Theodora)Ahern, his sister, Jeanne (Vincent) Hines, nieces and nephews, Jo-Ann Munsill, Charles Lang, Eileen Fletcher, Julianna Albert, Mary Lou O'Keefe, Christine Sullo,Susan,James and Mary Ann Borger, Barbara Salzano, Doreen and Kathleen Ahern, Patricia Ahern Luby and John Hines. He was predeceased by sisters Julia Lang, Vera Reynolds, Margaret Heffernan, and Rita Borger, niece Frances Anastasio and nephews Daniel Ahern and Joseph and Vincent Hines.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Most Reverend Henry J. Mansell, Archbishop of Hartford on Friday, Dec. 14, 2012 at 11 a.m. at the Church of the Good Shepherd, 135 Mountain Road, Seymour. Burial is in St. Lawrence Cemetery, West Haven. Friends may call on Thursday, Dec. 13, 2012 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Church of Good Shepherd. Memorial contributions may be made to The Archdiocese of Hartford for Retired Priests and Religious, In Memory of Rev. John S. Ahern, 134 Farmington Avenue, Hartford, Ct. 06105-3784.
