Russell Hawkins Allen was a son of Asa Jefferson Allen and Eleanor Frances "Nell" Hawkins. He was a graduate of East Nashville High School. He worked as a photographer in Nashville for over 50 years and served his country in the Pacific during World War II. He was married to Margaret Olivia Oeser on August 25, 1944. Two children, Sharon Allen Perry and Russell H. Allen, Jr.
