Reverend Ben C. Alexander passed away March 7, 2015 four days short of his 95th birthday.
Ben was preceded in death by his wives, Gerry Sorrells Alexander and Betty Masters Alexander.
Brother Ben was born in Shelbyville and grew up in Corinth, MS. He graduated with an accounting degree from Bowling Green Business College, now WKU. Answering a call to the ministry, he graduated from Candler Theological Seminary of Emory University with a Masters of Divinity. After serving as a Naval Chaplain during WWII and the Korean Conflict, he pastored United Methodist churches in Murfreesboro, Columbia, Belle Meade, Gallatin, Cookeville, Calvary in Green Hills and Hendersonville during his long ministry. He retired in Hendersonville and served as Pastor Emeritus there until his death. As an ordained minister for 70 years, Ben was the oldest active United Methodist minister in Tennessee. Ben was also involved in the local pastor’s association, MOA, Samaritan Center, Miriam’s Promise and many other civic organizations.
Brother Ben was beloved by all. He was known to be a wonderful minister with a great sense of humor and an unconditionally loving spirit.
