SHINNSTON — James Roy Ash, 95, of Lumberport, passed away at 6:40 a.m. Sunday, June 16, 2013, at his residence following an extended illness.
He was born in Joseph Mills, WV, February 21, 1918, a son of the late Harry and Jesse Tallman Ash.
He was also preceded in death by his wife, Frances Robey Ash, whom he married in 1944.
Surviving are one daughter, Mary Frances Carpenter and her husband Jerry; one son, Roy Dean Ash; seven grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Ash was also preceded in death by three sisters, Edna Slocum, Lucy Maiden and Louise McCaw.
He was a veteran having served with the United States Army in World War II. He was a farmer and a coal miner and last attended the Calvary Independent Church.
Friends may call at the Perine Funeral Home, Rt. 19 South, Shinnston, from 5 - 8 p.m. Wednesday, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 20, 2013, with Pastor Thomas Bell officiating. Interment will be in the Lions Club Cemetery. in
