Rosemarie Achabal
1942 ~ 2013
Rosemarie Achabal, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend, unexpectedly joined her Lord and Savior on 8/30/2013. She was born 11/29/1942 to Sebastian and Libe Salutregui in Homedale, ID, the second youngest of six children. Rosemarie spent her early childhood and adolescence working in the orchards around Central Cove, going to school in Homedale and playing sports. She graduated from Homedale High School in 1960. Upon graduating she moved to Boise and began working at American Linen. She met the love of her life Julian Achabal, and was soon married in 1962. They had a son, Steven, of whom she loved with pride.
Rosemarie thoroughly enjoyed being a devoted mother and wife. She worked the majority of her career in the Food and Nutrition Services Program for the Boise Independent School District where she retired.
Rosemarie also enjoyed volunteering for various Basque causes as well as St. Mary's church and school. Always one to work hard behind the scenes to get things accomplished, Rosemarie was hesitant and humbled to receive the accolades she deserved. Unfortunately, due to a number of health issues she endured for the latter part of her life, she was not able to volunteer as much as she wished she could.
Never one to complain about her own ailments, she was more interested in listening to others and trying to help them with their needs and problems. Rosemarie was a good friend to many over the years, which has been demonstrated by the abundance of phone calls, and well wishes the family has received from these individuals since her passing.
For the last few months of her life Rosemarie resided with her son and his family where she enjoyed her time playing games with her grandchildren, helping them with their homework, and being a fantastic grandmother.
Rosemarie is survived by her son Steven, daughter-in-law Carmen, grandchildren Ava and Ander, her brothers Ricardo (Dolores) and Fonce (Linda), and her sister Carmen (Fred), as well as numerous nephews and nieces. She is preceded in death by her husband Julian of 49 years, her parents, sister Miren (John), and brother Vick (Jean).
No matter the many obstacles Rosemarie faced throughout her life, her resiliency, courage, and her loving and caring nature were characteristics that will always be remembered by those fortunate enough to have their lives enriched by her.
A Rosary will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church on 9/8/2013, 7:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on 9/9/2013, at 9:30 am at St. Mary's, followed by burial services to be conducted at the Idaho State Veteran's Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Boise Basque Center, the Boise Basque Museum, or the National Spasmodic Torticollis Association.
