Edgar Venable ("Vennie") Adams was born in Buhl, Idaho on September 1, 1932, the sixth of nine children (Bernice, Waylon, Glenn, Maxine, Jean, Vennie, Mary Jane, Iris, and Tyke), to Gaither and Ova Adams.

The family moved to Boise in 1936. Vennie left school in 1948 and worked on the construction of Anderson Ranch Dam and Lucky Peak Dam before joining the Navy in 1950. Vennie served his country proudly and attended submarine school in Connecticut. He later was stationed in San Diego where he served on two different submarines. While in the Navy, Vennie also was a part of the UDT (Underwater Demolition Team).

He was honorably discharged in 1953 and attended school in Spokane, WA. He joined the Air Force in 1956 and served in Japan, Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand, Spain, and Morocco. He has also served our country in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars.

Vennie met his wife, Reiko Ishikawa, in Tokyo and they married in 1966. Vennie and Reiko went on to have a son, Virgil, who was born in Tokyo and later, a daughter, Patricia, who was born in Chicago while Vennie was stationed at Chanute Air Force Base in Illinois. He retired from the Air Force in Mountain Home Air Force Base in 1976.

After his years in the Service, he started a successful small business, selling it in 1998 to retire. Vennie's favorite job of all came after his retirement when he became a proud grandfather and babysitter to his grandkids, "the best job I ever took on", he said many times.

He cherished his grandchildren, and also enjoyed his weekly breakfast with "the Vet gang", which consisted of some of Vennie's best buddies: Lee Maier, Bill Turner and Jim Moffett. He also enjoyed regular poker games with friends Russ and Yoko, Dixi and John.

Other close friends Vennie would like to acknowledge are Bart and Kathleen Anderson and family; Bob Lester; Rawl and Mirenda Brown; Paul, Diane and family; Sam Miller; Eric Maier; and his sisters and their families.

Vennie was a very giving and friendly man who had an unwaveringly optimistic outlook on life. He left the world with literally hundreds of friends, or as one of his young grandson's proclaimed, "Papa has a lot of fans". He touched many lives during his time on earth, and enjoyed spending his last days visiting, swapping stories, and laughing with his family and friends. We will always remember him with a smile on his face at the center of a group of people laughing with him and enjoying his company.

Vennie was a man full of kindness, wisdom, knowledge, modesty, courage and strength. His most enjoyable moments were spent with his wife Reiko whom he adored, his children, and his grandchildren, teaching them, adoring them, and most of all, loving them.

Vennie is survived by his wife, Reiko, his son, Virgil and his wife, Ariel, his daughter, Patty Weires and her husband, Bill, his grandchildren, Bailey, Logan, Paxon, Jordan and Trinity, and his sisters, Mary Jane, Maxine, Iris, Jean and Tyke.

Vennie will receive military funeral honors at the Idaho Veterans State Cemetery on Friday, December 9th at 11 a.m. A memorial service for family and friends to honor Vennie's life will be held the following day, Saturday, December 10th between 1-4 p.m. at The Stone House at 665 E. Park Blvd. in Boise.

Vennie will be greatly missed by everyone that was graced by his presence, and we will remember and love him always.
