Suggested edit: AIRHEART Henry Tipton Airheart, a resident of Claremont since 1985, died at the Claremont Manor Care Center Sept. 28, 2001, following a long bout with cancer. Henry, as he was know to his friends and relatives, was born March 21, 1913, in Iredell, Texas. After helping his mother operate a small gasoline sttion and food service, he joined the Navy in 1935 to see the world. He went to Pharmacist's school, had tours of duty in the Pacific, Atlantic and Carribean, and served on the U.S.S. West Virginia, one of the battleships that went down at Pearl Harbor. On April 20, 1939, he re-enlisted and was given a medical discharge Dec. 22, 1942, with the rank of Pharmacist's Mate First Class. After World War II, he obtained a master's degree in Public Heath and worked in the Los Angeles City Health Department and subsequently Camarillo State Hospital. Cheerful, friendly, Henry was a proud Texan who was generous with help and advice to everyone he knew, and never went empty-handed anywhere. He is survived by his daughter Edra Lee Young and his grandson Timothy Howard Young, both of Claremont. Graveside services will be held at Oak Park Cemetery Wednesday, at 2:00 p.m. beside his wife of 57 years, Iretta Airheart, who died October 31, 1994. Todd Memorial is in charge of arrangements.
