PALM DESERT, Calif. - Darrell E. Allen, 81, of Palm Desert, passed away April 21, 2010, in Palm Desert of natural causes.

He was born Dec. 12, 1928, the son of Orphy and Evelyn (Loomis) Allen in Lima, Ohio. He married Marge Dumm on April 2, 1955. He was in sales for many years in Lima and upon moving to Sidney, he was with the Stolle Corp. (Division of Alcoa) as a buyer.

He was a member of Westside Swim and Racquet, Lima; a member of loyal order of Moose Lodge, Sidney; a member of BPOE Elks Lodge, Lima, and also of Lodge 786, Sidney.

Darrell served in the U.S. Army Artillery Battalion from 1950-1952 as a corporal.

Darrell and Marge loved walking the beaches of Florida and watching the dolphins as they traveled in and out of the Sanibel Island area.

Following their two sons to California, they settled in Sun City Palm Desert in 1994, enjoying the people, sun and pools. Darrell became a member of the Emergency Committee until his illness.

He was a caring and loving father and his life with Marge of 55 years was filled with many memories which will live on with his family and dear friends.

In addition to his wife, Darrell is survived by his sons, John D. Allen (Nana) of Redlands, Calif. and Darren B. Allen (Sandy) of Westlake Village, Calif.; sisters, Dorothy Foust of Elida, Ohio and Nettie Millirons of Mesa, Ariz; brothers, Raymond Allen of Rosarito Beach, Mexico and Larry Allen of Defiance, Ohio; and two grandchildren, Adrienne Y. Allen and Alana N. Allen.

Private services were held at Forest Lawn Mortuary before his placement.
