Gus Alvarez, 77, passed away on November 21, 2011 in Palm Desert, California after a long battle with adrenal cancer.

He was born in Paterson, New Jersey, served in the U.S. Navy, and then graduated Summa Cum Laude from Fairleigh Dickinson University with a degree in Engineering.

He then moved his family to California in the late 1950's for job opportunities. Gus started his career at Litton Systems and then had managerial positions at Teledyne, Northridge, and Kaiser Elec. in San Jose. His love of flying was well known and his Grumman Tiger airplane was the 'second' love of his life.

He is survived by his wife, Theresa; daughters, Lisa and Renee; step-sons, Harvey, Nick, and Joe; sisters, Rosalie and Gloria; and numerous loving grandchildren.

A Funeral Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Palm Desert on Friday, November 25, 2011 at 2:00 p.m., with interment to follow at Forest Lawn, 69855 East Ramon Road, Cathedral City.
