Mary Ellen B. Baumgarten, age 91, of Reedsburg, died on Tuesday, November 13, 2018 in the Reedsburg Area Medical Center. She was born on March 7, 1927 in the Town of Winfield, Sauk County, the daughter of Rollie and Lilah (Allert) Gardner. On December 29, 1946, she was married to Erwin E. Baumgarten. Mary Ellen was a member of St. John Lutheran Church. She had worked at Schultz Brothers, Reedsburg Quality Hardware and Brides and Belles for many years until her retirement. Mary Ellen enjoyed doing crafts and crocheting. Survivors include her two daughters: Gloria (Alan) Burke, of Fitchburg and Susan Koz, and her fiancé, Alan Bush, of Elmhurst, IL; three grandchildren: Robb (Sherri) Burke, Chad Gengelbach and Kimberly (Aaron) Bizub; two great grandchildren: Morgan and Dylan Burke; one brother: Edward Gardner, of Loganville; one sister: Marge (Bud) Meyer, of Reedsburg; nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Erwin, on August 15, 1988; two daughters: Carol Ann Baumgarten in 1957 and Kathy Gengelbach in 2018; two brothers: Bob and Loran Gardner; and one sister: Evelyn Mikelson. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, November 17, 2018 at St. John Ev. Lutheran Church in Reedsburg with Pastor Kenneth Schwab officiating. Interment will be at St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery in Loganville. There will be a visitation from 9:30 A.M. until the time of the service on Saturday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery in Loganville would be appreciated. The Hoof Funeral Home is serving the family.
