Huddersfield's Roll of Honour: 1914-1922
The following extract is from Huddersfield's Roll of Honour: 1914-1922 (2014) by J. Margaret Stansfield:

CALLAGHAN, CHARLES HENRY, MM, MSM. Sergeant. No 45400. 'D' Battery, 256th Brigade Royal Field Artillery. Born Albion Street, Huddersfield, 11.8.1887. Son of Mrs J. Callaghan, Park Side House, Maple Street, Huddersfield, and the late Inspector Callaghan of the Huddersfield Borough Police Force. Educated at Spring Grove Council School. Prior to enlistment was working in Glasgow as a plumber and glazier. Single. Enlisted January 1896. Awarded the Military Medal for 'bravery in the field' in April, 1917. Wounded near Cambrai on 13.5.1917. Treated in Hove Hospital, England for hip wound and amputation of left leg. Died of wounds at Hove, 30.12.1917, aged 30.

Buried in EDGERTON CEMETERY, HUDDERSFIELD. Grave location:- 11B, 116.
ROH:- Mount Pleasant Chapel, Lockwood.

NB: The enlistment date quoted must be wrong because of Charles' age, but on the 1911 census he is shown as serving as a Gunner in Ceylon
