JULIA A. ANGOVE DIED QUIETLY LAST SUNDAY MORNING

Julia Smitham Angove, Grass Valley's outstanding personage in longevity, died at the Jones Memorial Hospital at 5:35 a.m. Sunday, March 5, fifteen days after she had achieved her 100th year last February 20.

Mrs. Angove had been under hospital care and attention for approximately six weeks, originally for chest congestion and impaired heart action and later for pneumonia but while her condition was precarious on several occasions, she usually managed to rally and acquire a share of her former vigor and tenacity until the recent weekend.
Here 69 Years
Mrs. Angove was born in Crowan Parish, England, February 20, 1844 and was a woman of 28 years when she first came to the United States to settle in Pennsylvania, three years later moving to Grass Valley, which became her established and permanent home. The Angove home at 318 Neal street with it's unique design and formal gardens has long been one of the landmarks of the community.
Friends in realization of the century-long life span of the Grass Valley woman, recall that during Mrs. Angove's lifetime, the state of California was reclaimed from the Mexican government and developed into one of the great commonwealths of the union; that what is generally regarded as modern living in lights, power, communication, transportation and conveniences of home and living, have taken place in her time.
The 60th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Angove was quietly celebrated by family members last Christmas eve, December 24, when both the venerable woman and her equally well known husband, Jeremiah Angove enjoyed moderately good health.
Husband, Daughters Bereaved
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Angove is survived by two daughters: Mrs. E. S. Matteson and Mrs. Raymond Parsons, both of Grass Valley; four grandchildren, Misses Marion and Marjorie Matteson, Lieutenant David E. Matteson and Mrs. Brower Dellinger, all of Grass Valley and a great grandson, Brewer Dellinger, Jr.
Funeral services will be held at the family home, 318 Neal street at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 8, under the auspices of the Hooper-Weaver Mortuary, Inc. Friends are asked to please omit flowers.
The home rites will be conducted by Rev. Cedric Porter, rector of the Trinity Episcopal Church of Nevada City and interment will follow in the Masonic Cemetery in Grass Valley.
