Wojciech Januszewicz was born on 30th April 1911 and served in the Polish Air Force. During the German invasion he claimed a Me110 and two Ju87’s destroyed. He later escaped to France and in May 1940 was with a Dewoitine fighter squadron at Meaux. After the French collapse he made his way to North Africa and then reached England via Gibraltar.
Januszewicz joined 303 Squadron at Northolt at its formation on 2nd August 1940. He was shot down by a Me109 on 6th September and crash-landed near Lenham in Hurricane P3089. On the 26th he was damaged in combat over Southampton and forced-landed between Charity and Wyton Farms, near Fareham, in Hurricane P3544.
He was killed on 5th October 1940 when he was shot down by Me109’s and crashed in flames at Stowting in Hurricane P3892.
Januszewicz is buried in Northwood Cemetery, Middlesex and is remembered on the Polish Air Force Memorial at Northolt.
He was awarded the VM (5th Class) (gazetted 23rd December 1940)
