ALberta's full maiden name is: Carrie Alberta Mire. Some thoughts of how I remember my grandmother. She seemed always happy, loved to hum and she was very good at humming. She would hum those old gospel hymnals all the time. She also was a very good cook, and could cook a meal so fast, you never saw it coming. She made the best fried flitters and pecan pralines. Grandma used to say, " Don't worry about what you're going to wear or what your going to eat, because God will take care of that." She had the softest skin and softest hands. She liked to chew doublemint gum and always had a stick of gum wrapped in a keenex in her purse. She kept a jar of Ponds skin lotion on her nightstand and the Bible which she read from everynight. She never owned a car, wasn't much on material things. She grew her own tomatoes and vegatables. Her favorite flavor ice cream was strawberry. She had many great challenges in life, one that she raised her 6 children by herself, when her husband died at an early age, ( Roy died as a baby). She worked in the Franklin Hospital, as a cleaning lady. She went through the heartbreak of losing most of her family to cancer and she lived to see 3 of her grown sons die, two sons Red and FJ died just weeks apart. Her home burned to the ground in the '60,s, losing everything. She loved going to Calvary Baptist Church in Centerville, LA. She was a woman of strong faith and love for God. Alberta was my grandmother.
