Green Mountain, N.C. - Flora Granny Barnett Adkins, 76, of Byrd Creek Road, Green Mountain, N.C., passed away Thursday, February 5, 2009, at her home. She was a native of Mitchell County, N.C. and the daughter of the late Willie and Hannah Ann Peterson Barnett. She was a member of Zion Upper Pigeon Roost Freewill Baptist Church. She was a Special Volunteer and Supporter of Bradshaw Volunteer Fire Department. She was a loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, and Friend.
Survivors include her daughter, Kay Adkins Gouge and husband, Danny, of Greeneville, Tenn.; sons, Steve Adkins and wife, Lesa, of Green Mountain, N.C., Darrell Adkins of Green Mountain, N.C., and Rick Adkins and wife, Carol, of Burnsville, N.C.; one sister, Ruth Barnett Edwards and husband, Bobby Gene, of Green Mountain, N.C.; 10 grandchildren; and 16 greatgrandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Boyd Adkins; brothers, J. V. Barnett, Clinton Barnett, and I. B. Barnett.
The funeral service will be held at 8 p.m. Saturday, February 7, in the chapel of Henline Hughes Funeral Home, with Ronnie Whitson officiating. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service. Interment will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, February 8, at Byrd Creek Cemetery (Ray Barnett Road).
Pallbearers will be Members of Bradshaw Volunteer Fire Department.
