Samuel Thompson on the census records states he was born in Washington, D.C. and that his father and mother were both born in Virginia. His wife Sarah A. states she was born in Pennsylvania and her father and mother were both born in Pennsylvania. Samuel is on the census records for Pottsville 1840, 1850, 1860, 1870, and 1880. I have not looked at the census directory for 1890. Sarah his wife is on the 1840, 1850, 1860, 1870, 1880, 1900, and 1910 census records. The 1840 census shows one male 24 thru 35, one female 10 thru 23, and 1 male under 10. have not been able to locate the name of this son. The 1850 census record has children for Samuel and Sarah as follows; Caroline born 1841, Emma E. born 1850. The 1860 census adds children; Josephine born 1851, Ann Eliza born 1853, Alice born 1855, William H. born 1857. The 1870 census adds children; Samuel born 1861 and Ida born 1863. The 1900 census show Samuel and Sarah as having 10 children and 6 living as of the 1900 census. I have located the names of eight of the children. The 1910 census has Emma Jackson, grandaughter, born 1893 living with Sarah A. Thompson. One of Samuel and Sarah's daughter must have married a Jackson.
