In 1940, Luther was residing with his parents and older sister, Jean (who would later marry and become Jean Fetterhoff) in Valley View. Luther's father was employed as a coal miner at this time.

Private, U.S. Army, 510th Transportation Truck Co. Enlisted at Pottsville, Pennsylvania on 17 September 1948. Honorably Discharged on 4 October 1952 at IGMR, Pennsylvania.
