NECROLOGY

Mrs. Elizabeth Stallcup was born in Henry County, Tennessee, October, 1822, and died February 22, 1905.

She was married to William Stallcup March 19, 1846, near the town of Jefferson, Texas. Four children-three sons and one daughter came to bless this union. The three sons still survive her mourn her loss, while her husband and daughter have preceeded her to the great beyond to whose realm we all are hastening.

Mrs. Stallcup was a devout christian, having convessed her Savior in early life. She united with the Cumberland Presbyterian church in her youth, and has been a devoted member of the church for many years. One of her favorite passages of Scripture and one with which she could say with the inspired Apostle, "I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith, henceforth there i laid up for me a crown of righteousness [sic] which the Lord, the righteous [sic] judge, shall give me at that day." II Timothy 4:8. May we all be able to add our testimony to hers when the trying hour comes.

The funeral services were held at the family residence, fifteen miles out from Jefferson, and were largely attended by the friends and relatives of the family. Two of her sons were present at the funeral but the other was seriously ill with la grippe and could not be present.

A large number of colored people were present to show their love and respect to one who had been so kind to them.

The bereaved family have the sympathy of all their friends, and we point to the One, who said: "come unto me all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest."

The remains were laid to rest in the family burying ground, near her home.
