Andrew L. Ballard, born April 20, 1856 in Todd County, Kentucky, died October 17, 1908 in Gentry County, Missouri. Wife Alice Hall is memorial #33190930.

Frances E Ballard Born Sept 9-1826 -Died Dec 26, 1897
Harrison Ballard Born Feb 7 1810- Died Feb 7 1886 -age 76. (his is incorrect except for death date.)

The correct info for Harrison is he was born August 1819- Died Feb 7 1886.

This tombstone was erected years later when Frances died and they got a new double stone to replace his single old one. Whoever did the new stone definitely got it messed up. His obituary said he was 67 when he died and all the census records were consistently on target with this age and a birth year of 1819. We surmissed that his age at time of death accidently got "transposed" from 67 to 76 by the new stone carver or he carved a 0 insted of a 9. His old stone likely did not have his birth date on it, as most did not. In those days it was common to put the only the death date and the deceased's age. Some had their age in years, months and days and some only listed their age in years. If they only had him as dying on Feb 7, 1886 -age 67 years with 0 months and 0 days listed, then the carver in 1897 may have assumed he was he was exactly, to the day, age 67 (or 76), when he died.....-thus dying on his birth day. So when he had to add a birth date to the stone he calculated and carved Feb. 7, 1810. It was either never noticed by his children since most of them no longer lived in the area or the ones that were alive did not know their fathers' birth date as it was 30 years since his death. Maybe they knew but never bothered or got around to having it corrected before they themselves died.
It was probably hard to "change something that was carved in stone".
