Bernt Kermit Allestad, 81, went to be with the Lord on the evening of Monday, March 5, 2012, at his home, surrounded by his family.

Bernt was born in Big Timber on Sept. 30, 1930, to Ole and Margaret Allestad, joining his brother Lars. The Allestad family moved to Plains in 1939. In March 1941 his parents purchased a ranch outside of Plains, which he later bought. Bernt spent the better part of his life working and living on the ranch.

Bernt was and always will be remembered as a person of great integrity, compassion and unbendable faith. He had a great passion for ranching. Many fond memories of family and friends were made on cattle drives and brandings, some also while hunting, fishing and haying. He was a father figure to many and was sought for his wisdom and advice.

Bernt is survived by is wife Magnhild; daughters Monica (Clint) Weedeman and Olga Allestad (Jonathan Allen); sons Karsten Allestad and Bernt Mikal Allestad (Brittney Baker); four grandchildren, Jonathan Mikal Felix, Elisabeth Marie Weedeman, Clinton James Weedeman and Isabella Allestad; sister-in-law Viola Allestad; four nephews, Ole (Janice) Allestad, Oscar (Sheila) Allestad, Kermit (Leah) Allestad and Bernard (Janet) Allestad; and niece Bernice Allestad (Joe Caliguiri).

He was preceded in death by his parents Ole and Margaret, brother Lars and niece Christine Quinn.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Thursday, March 8, at Sunset Hills Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 9, at the Plains Bible Chapel with burial to immediately follow, at the Plains Cemetery. A lunch will be served at the VFW.
