Funeral services for John Elijah Abbott, who died Monday morning after several days illness, were held at Oak Ridge Methodist church, of which he was a member,Tuesday afternoon at three o'clock. Rev.J. H. Bridges conducted the services; Bowen-Donaldson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements...(music omitted)..
Pall-bearers were Emerson, Henry, Emory, and Jack Abbott, his sons, J. C. Walters, son-in-law and Lewis G. Abbott, nephew. Interment was in the Tifton cemetery.
Mr. Abbott, who was 75 years old, joined the Methodist church in early manhood. He was married to Miss Annie Elizabeth Poole in 1903, and she survives him with seven children Mrs. Grace Walters, Tifton; Emerson Abbott, Canton, N.C.; Mrs. Helen Pfetzing; Philadelphia, Pa; Henry Abbott Tifton, Emory Abbott, Bremerton, Was; Jack Abbott, Canton, N C and Mrs. Lucy McDaniel, Boise Idaho. Two children, John E Jr. and Newton Ellison, preceded Mr. Abbot in death. Surviving also are nine grandchildren; four brothers, S. A., S. W., B. H. and W H Abbott all of Tifton; two sisters, Mrs. E. H. Rusk, Tifton and Mrs. R. D. Hutto, Waycross, and a number of nieces and nephews. Two sisters, Mrs. Conway Maxwell and Miss Georgia Abbott, preceded him in death. (Out of town visitors omitted.)
