ORBIE CURTIS COWLING was the son of Sam Cowling and Mrs. Esther Mae (Wright) Cowling.

Obituary
"Funeral services for Orbie Curtis Cowling, of Jefferson, will be 11 a.m. Saturday, December 6, 2008, at Judea Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Eddie R. Burns Sr. officiating. Burial will be in Judea Cemetery under the direction of Hayward-Stanmore Funeral Home. Mr. Cowling died Saturday, November 29, 2008, in the Veterans Administration Hospital, in Shreveport, Louisiana. He was born March 8, 1924, in Jefferson, Texas, to Sam and Ester Wright Cowling. Mr. Cowling was a member of Judea Baptist Church. He served aboard the USS Cape Esperanza in World War II. Survivors include his wife, Velma Cowling; his sisters, Ruby Guidry, of Houston, and Johnnie Gibson, of Oklahoma City; his son, Lawrence Smith, of the Philippines; his daughters, Orbie S. Ratcliff, of Houston, Vanessa D. Cowling, of Houston, and Laurene Lee, of Columbus, Georgia; five grandchildren; two sons-in-law; and several cousins, nephews, and nieces."
