Jack Edward Abernathy
Jack Edward Abernathy, 73, of 56 Covered Bridge Lane, died Thursday, June 3, 2004.
Mr. Abernathy was born March 6, 1931, in Buncombe County, where he had lived all of his life. He retired from Champion Products and was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving in the U.S. Navy. Jack was the son of the late Ivey Lee and Virgie Abernathy. Also preceding him in death was his sister, Doris Case, and brother, Harold Abernathy.
Surviving is his wife of 40 years, Betty Jean Davis Abernathy; sisters, Margaret Huntsinger and Mildred Harris, both of Leicester, and Mary Suttles of Jacksonville, Fla.; brothers, Gerald Abernathy of Birmingham, Ala., and Eddie Abernathy of Louisville, Ky.; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday in the chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, with the Revs. C.W. Anthony and Jack Gassaway officiating. Burial will be in Ashelawn Gardens of Memory.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, and at other times will be at their residence
