He was born in Cleveland, OH, raised in Jackson, TN and had resided in Buncombe County since 1944. He was owner and operator of Skyland Cleaners and former manager of Minico Cleaners and Laundry. After his retirement he was a consultant to other laundries in the Asheville area and was recognized as an expert dry cleaning authority. He was a member of St. Eugene’s Catholic Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in the Korean War and in WW II with the 13th Airborne as a paratrooper. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 891.
Mr. Pendergrast was a son of the late Lexie and Mary Hayes Pendergrast of Jackson, TN. He was descended from the Sir Maurice de Prendergast family of South Wales. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Ray Pendergrast.
His family and many friends will remember Mr. Pendergrast for his love of life and laughter. He and Mrs. Pendergrast enjoyed the many activities and outings with the Woodfin Golden Age Club. Mr. Pendergrast never met a stranger.
