He was a native of Mathews County, and a member of Spring Hill Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII, and retired from the Naval Supply Center, Norfolk. He was also a member of Oriental Lodge #20 A.F. & A.M. and a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite.
He is survived by his wife of 63 yrs, Evangeline C Armistead; two daughters, Connie and husband Mark Fullerton of Kilmarnock, and Beverly and husband Sheldon Foster of Cobbs Creek; one sister, Ruby Grubb; four grandchildren, and five great grandchildren also survive.
