Prince. Louis Alexandre Joseph Stanislas de Bourbon, son of Louis Jean Marie de Bourbon and his wife Maria Teresa Felicitas d'Este, was born at the Hôtel de Toulouse in Paris. He was a descendant of King Louis XIV of France and his mistress Madame de Montespan on both sides of his family. His father was their grandson, and his mother was their great-granddaughter. He was given the title of Prince of Lamballe at birth. In a family of seven children, only he and his sister Marie Adélaïde survived to adulthood. After the death of his older brother Louis Marie, the prince became the heir to the vast family fortune. His father arranged his marriage to Princess Maria Teresa Luisa of Savoy. The ceremonies took place in January of 1767. After a few months, Louis Alexandre tired of his wife and resumed his libertine ways. He died in 1768 from a venereal disease, his wife at his side. His death at the Château de Louveciennes occurred a little more than a year after his wedding. His final resting place was in the Chapelle Royale de Dreux. (For additional information on his interments, including desecration during the Revolution, please see the memorials for his father or grandfather.) After his death, his wife became a high-ranking member of the court of Queen Marie Antoinette. She was brutally murdered in 1792, during the French Revolution.
