Princess, Duchess, Artist. Marie Christine Caroline Adélaïde Françoise Léopoldine d'Orléans, daughter of Louis Philippe d'Orléans, Duke of Orléans, and his wife Maria Amalia of Naples and Sicily, was born in Palermo. She was the third of ten children. Her father became the King of the French. Her mother was the daughter of King Ferdinand I of Naples and Sicily. She was well-educated, as well as a talented artist. In October of 1837, she married Alexander, Duke of Württemberg at Versailles. The marriage produced one child, a son, born in 1838. However, Marie contracted tuberculosis and she died in Pisa in 1839. She was interred on January 27, 1839 at the Chapelle Royale de Dreux. Her gisant (effigy) in the chapel was sculpted by the artist Hector Lemaire. Marie used her artistic talent in drawing and sculpture. Many of her works are in the Museum of Dordrecht, in the Netherlands. An exhibition of her work was held at the Louvre on April 18, 2008 through July 21, 2008: "Marie d'Orléans 1813-1839, Princesse et artiste romantique."
