James Joseph Abernathy was was born in Huntsville.

Graduated from Corpus Christi High School in 1933. He attended the University of Texas. He worked for the Caller-Times before graduation from high school, and except for wartime service, worked for the newspaper until his death.

He served in the Army during World War II.

Survived by his wife, Mildred; son, James Jr; two sisters, Mrs. Inez Walker of Alice and Mrs. Nora Farris of Zavala. Funeral services Tuesday.
