South Carolina, Greenville - GEORGE PATTERSON "Pat" APPERSON, JR., 78, husband of Frances Middleton Towles Apperson, of Greenville, died Monday, September 3, 2007. Born in Memphis, TN on March 12, 1929, he was the son of the late George Patterson Apperson and Mary MacAlister Apperson. Mr. Apperson was a 1947 graduate of the Sewanee Military Academy, a member of the class of 1951 of the University of the South, Sewanee and the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. He was employed in the cotton business prior to becoming Vice President of Transit Homes Inc. He later became President of Colonial Company Inc., Real Estate. As a communicant of Christ Church Episcopal, he was a past member of the vestry. He was a past board member of Kanuga Conferences, past Chairman of the Board of Christ Church Episcopal School and a past President of the St. Andrews Society ofUpper South Carolina. He was also a member of the Cotillion Club of Greenville. Preceding him in death was his brother, Edmund Minetry Apperson. Surviving, including his wife, are his son, George Patterson Apperson III (Annie Harris Massie Apperson) of Lynchburg, VA; his daughter, Minetry Apperson Crowley (Whit Crowley) of Memphis, TN; his son, William Tellous Wells, III (Cynthia Jones Wells) of Lexington, SC; and his grandson, William T. Wells IV. Funeral services will be Wednesday, September 5, at 2 p.m. at Christ Church Episcopal with the Rev. Dr. RobertS.Dannals presiding. Burial will follow in the churchyard. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association of Greenville 3535 Pelham Rd., Greenville, SC 29615, the Cancer Society of Greenville County, 113 Mills Ave., Greenville, SC 29605 the Memphis Humane Society, 935 Farm Road Memphis TN, 38134 or to the charity of one's choice.
