Mr. Ammons was born in Marion, a son of the late Arturo Demont Ammons, Sr. and Mary Mitcham Ammons. He was owner of Ammon's Furniture and Ammon's IGA. Mr. Ammons was a member of Marion Baptist Church, a Rotarian, and a member of the Historic Marion Downtown Revitalization Committee. He was a graduate of Presbyterian College and Georgia Tech.
Mr. Ammons was married for over forty years to Jerrie Charlene Wilder Ammons of Marion. He is also survived by a son, Derek Ammons of Terlingua, TX; three daughters, Cheryl Butler of Florence, Dawn Brown of Florence, and Tracie Mistry of Myrtle Beach; a brother, James Ammons of Vienna, VA., 6 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.
