FAIRMONT — Robert Newton Amos, 82, of Mannington, passed away Thursday (Aug. 12, 2010) at Fairmont General Hospital.

He was born Sept. 11, 1927, at Burnsville, a son of the late Frank and Eula Bush Amos.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years; six children; 10 grandchildren; two sisters; and a son-in-law. He also is survived by several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Martha Sue Johnson; two brothers, Hugh Amos and Frank Amos Jr.; and two sisters, June Tucker and Eva Eschenburg.

Mr. Amos was a U.S. Army veteran. He graduated from East Fairmont High School and Fairmont State College. He earned his master's degree at West Virginia University. Mr. Amos was a school teacher, having taught at Mannington High School and Mannington Middle School. He retired in 1992 after 30 years of employment with Marion County Schools.

He was a member of the First United Methodist in Mannington. He was a Sunday school teacher for the Methodist Church. Mr. Amos was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.

Friends may call at the Masters Funeral Home, 209 Main St., Mannington, from 2 to 9 p.m. Saturday. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home. Burial will follow at Mannington Memorial Park Cemetery. Online condolences may be sent to the family at [email protected].
