Elizabeth Abels

Elizabeth "Betty" Abels, 90, of Parkersburg, died October 31, 2005 at Worthington Manor Nursing Facility. She was born April 21, 1915 in Corry, PA a daughter of the late Charles L. and Emma Hoffman Wilson.

Mrs. Abels graduated from Swissvale High School in Pennsylvania and was a 1937 graduate of Marietta College. She was a retired school teacher and taught at Parkersburg High School. Betty was a member of the Good Shepherd Episcopal Church where she was a service assistant, a member of the vestry, sang in the church choir, served on various committees, was a member of the Order of Jerusalem and a Lay Eucharistic Minister.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Richard Abels.

Betty is the last surviving member of her family. On her late husband's side, survivors include: a nephew, Dr. Gene Abels of Gallipolis, OH, great nieces Barbara, Beth and Sara Abels, nephew George Abels of Fort Wayne, IN and great nephews Gary, Greg, Glen, Bobby and Guy, and many great great nieces and nephews. A cousin Ann Abels Pike also survives her.

Per Mrs. Abels' wishes, there will be no visitation. A funeral Eucharist will be Friday 11:00 AM at the Memorial Church of the Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, The Reverend Arthur L. Bennett officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery.
Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg is in charge of arrangements.
