ABJANIC, THEODORE B.

Theodore B. Abjanic, 81, of Rancho Bernardo, passed away March 27, 2005.

Born and raised in Croatia where he spent his youth. Because of political persecution in former Communist Yugoslavia, in May 1945 Ted escaped to Austria, settled in Graz and continued his engineering studies.

In 1951 he married Rose Rubin, also from Croatia, and emigrated to the U.S. settling in Cleveland, Ohio.

Ted found employment with General Electric Co. where he worked for 37 years, excelling as an engineering design specialist of G.E. Glass melting plants built in the U.S.A., Brazil and Venezuela.

In 1994, he and Rose moved to the San Diego area to be near their children and grandchildren.

Ted's main hobbies were soccer, tennis and Croatian folklore.

In Cleveland he organized and led Croatian Folk Dance Groups which in the course of 10 years held many concerts and performed in American Folk Festivals. To help his native Croatia to become a free, democratic and independent country he organized and was elected president of the North American Council for an Independent Croatia.

Ted was also active on the American political scene. He was the president of the Croatian Republican Club in Euclid, Ohio.

Ted was a devoted and caring husband, father and grandfather.

He is survived by his beloved wife Rose, son John, daughter-in-law Helen, daughter Maria, son-in-law Charles and the grandchildren: Caitlin and Michael.

He will be remembered as a kind and compassionate person who loved his family, his neighbors and friends. His optimism, deep Catholic faith and belief in the Providence of God helped to overcome most difficult and perilous times in his life.

Visitation Thursday, March 31, 2005 from 12:30-1:30 p.m. with Mass at 1:30 p.m. both at San Rafael Church, 17252 Bernardo Center Dr. San Diego, Ca 92128 (858-487-4314).

Interment at El Camino Memorial Park, San Diego, following the Mass. In lieu of flowers, donations suggested to American Cancer Society.
