Man and Nine-Year-Old Child Drown in Bayou
New Iberia, La. – Two grief stricken California families prepared to return home today to bury their dead. One was nine-year-old Irving Isakson of San Jose, Cal., who drowned last night in Bayou Teche near here; the other was Elmer Abby, 28, Pacific Grove, Cal., who lost his life trying to save the child. Mr. & Mrs. L. Isakson, parents of the boy, and Abby and his wife were spending the winter near here. The child, floating in the bayou on an auto inner tube, sank when it sprang a leak. Abby drowned trying to help and his wife went to the rescue. A passing motorist pulled her from the water. The bodies of the child and Abby were recovered several hours later.

Tube Bursts, Two Drowned
New Iberia, LA. – Bursting of an auto tire inner tube used as a floating device resulted in the drowning of two persons. The dead are Irving Isacson, 9, and Elmer Abby, retired Los Angeles newspaper man who maintained a winter home here. The boy was floating on a bayou with the use of the tube when it burst. He sank and drooned. Abby lost his life in trying to rescue the boy. Mrs. Abby, his wife, jumped into the water to try to save her husband and she was rescued by a passing motorist. The Isaacson child was visiting the Abby home.
