Pacific Grove - Surrounded by her family, Flora Rubio Acosta, 79, passed peacefully from this life on Sunday, May 30, 2010, into the hands of her Lord.

Flora was born on January 5, 1931 in Pacific Grove, California. As one of 13 children of Annunciacion and Estanislada Rubio, she was raised in a loving and happy family.

In 1954, she met the love of her life, Teofilo (known as Rene) Acosta, and was united in marriage to him on October 2, 1954. They were married for 24 wonderful years before he died in 1979.

Flora was employed for 22 years by Pacific Bell, and retired in 1992. She then spent time helping her children raise their families, and traveling. Flora was a cheerful and loving person, who cherished her family and met every visitor with an open heart and a homecooked meal. A voracious reader since early in her life, Flora passed on her love of reading to her children.

Flora is survived by her children, Annette (Robert) Karle of Folsom; Evelyn (Frank) Weirich of Iowa City; Rene (Janice) Acosta of Monterey; Francisco (Susan) Acosta of Sacramento; and Robert Acosta of Pacific Grove. She leaves her grandchildren; Julie (Richard) Warren and their sons, Robert and Lucas; Margaret, Christine and Frank Weirich; Rene, Brianna, Nathaniel and Ariel Acosta; Francisco, Gabriel and Madeleine Acosta. Flora also leaves behind her sisters, Mercedes Paredes and Charlotte (Larry) Feliciano; sisters-in-law, Antonia Rubio, Mary Rubio and Guadalupe Rubio; brother-in-law, Walter Ruiz; a beloved cousin, Augustina (Joe) Alderete and many nieces and nephews.

Flora was preceded in death by her husband; her infant son, Joseph; her grandsons, Robert and Scott Karle; her parents; her brothers and sisters, Henry Rubio, Amelia (Frank) Perez, John (Josephine) Rubio, Salvador Rubio, Robert (Josephine) Rubio, Raymond Rubio, Virginia (Daniel) Mares, Theresa Ruiz, Raymundita and Bernadito Rubio; her brother-in-law, Jesse Paredes and a cousin, Frank Zavala.

Visitation will take place at The Paul Mortuary Chapel tomorrow, Thursday, June 3 from 4-7 PM. Rosary and Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, June 4 at 10:00 AM at St. Angela Merici Church followed by burial at El Carmelo Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Flora's honor to the Pacific Grove Library, 550 Central Ave., Pacific Grove, 93950 or Meals on Wheels of the Monterey Peninsula, 700 Jewell, Pacific Grove, 93950.
