She was born June 28, 1917, in Winnona, a daughter of the late Fred and Glenna Nelson Holland.
Marion graduated from Nuttall High School and went on to nursing school, obtaining her state nursing license from McKendree Hospital. She worked at the Beckley Hospital and finished her nursing career in Dunbar as director of nursing at the West Virginia Rehabilitation Center in Institute. She was a United Methodist by faith and a longtime member of the Eastern Star Chapter 59 of Winolia.
In addition to her parents, Marion was preceded in death by her husband, William Richard Callaghan, who was a retired West Virginia state policeman and a former chief of police in Parkersburg. Marion was also preceded in death by C. Harold Amick, a close family friend; brother, Roy "Sway" Holland; and two sisters, Margaret Sandige and Pauline Lee.
She is survived by her daughter, Shirley Ann Hill of Parkersburg; and son, William Fred Callaghan and his wife, Patti, of Tampa, Fla. Also surviving are her grandchildren, who called her "Meme," Belinda Bargeloh and husband, Mark, Charles R. Hill and his wife, Paula, Patty Hill, Kristen Pawlowski and her husband, Aaron, Stacy Clarkson and her husband, Robert, Erin Callaghan; and six great-grandchildren.
Marion loved her job as RN at Rehab in Institute and the longtime friends she made there. She spent many happy years in the Dunbar area until she felt the need to move closer to her family in Parkersburg a few years ago.
Funeral services for Marion will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, Pike Street South, Parkersburg, with Evangelist Steve Fuchs officiating. Burial will follow in Bethany Christian Cemetery at New England Ridge.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
