Donzel Eugene "Don" Ammons, 81, of Pentress, W.Va., died at 4 a.m. Thursday, April 10, 2014, in his home following a lengthy illness.

He was born Friday, January 20, 1933, in Core, W.Va., a son of the late Albert "Jeff" Ammons and Linnie McCord Ammons.

Mr. Ammons grew up and lived his entire life in Pentress. He was a member of Mt. Morris Gospel Tabernacle Assembly of God.

Mr. Ammons was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served during the Korean War. While serving, he was stationed in Key West, Fla. After working for Consol Energy for many years, he became vice president of Blacksville operations, until his retirement July 1, 1993.

He enjoyed gardening, woodworking and fishing. He also loved spoiling his grandchildren and helping everyone in the community whenever he was able. Mr. Ammons was completely devoted to his family.

Surviving are his wife, Virginia Lemley Ammons, whom he married April 7, 1952; a daughter, Linda (Greg) Harvey of Mt. Morris; two sons, Michael Lee "Mike" Ammons of Wadestown, W.Va., and Douglas Eugene "Doug" (Jill) Ammons of Core; five grandchildren, Bradley Allen Harvey, Ryan Gregory (Cassie) Harvey, Shane Michael Ammons, Brady Douglas Ammons and Breanna Janea Ammons; three sisters, Martha "Peg" Tennant of Fairview, W.Va., Lorene Priest of Virginia and Glenda Remfert of Texas; a brother, Carroll "Cat" Ammons of Blacksville, W.Va.; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased are two sisters, Isabell and Maryland, and two brothers, Ronald "Ron" Ammons and Clare Ammons.

The family would like to thank all the nurses and caregivers at Hospice Care Corporation in Morgantown, W.Va.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, in Milliken and Throckmorton Funeral Home Inc., Daryl L. Throckmorton, owner/director, 324 Mt. Morris Road, P.O. Box 478, Mt. Morris, PA 15349. There will be additional viewing from 10 to 11 a.m., the time of service, Monday, April 14, in Mt. Morris Gospel Tabernacle Assembly of God, Mt. Morris, with the Rev. Fred Tomlinson and the Rev. John Jackson officiating. Burial will be in Olive Cemetery, Pentress, W.Va. Graveside military rites to be accorded by James T. Maxon American Legion Post 992 of Mt.
