Don Aabel, 71, Venice, died Dec. 4, 2004, after a long illness.

He was born March 1, 1933, in Bertrand, Neb., and came to Venice in 2003 from River Falls, Wis., after many years as a winter resident. He retired in 1995 as a certified public accountant and had also taught accounting at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls and Hastings College. He received bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Colorado and a doctorate from the University of Minnesota.

He was an Army veteran and the original founder of the Falcon Investment Club and the Accounting Society. He was on the River Falls Area Hospital Board and the River Falls Library Board, and was past president of the Lions Club. He was a member and on the vestry of Trinity Episcopal Church in River Falls.

Survivors include his wife, Jo Ann (Rose); children Kimberly Nicholas, Ann Cramer and John; sisters; and six grandchildren.

Memorial services will be in Florida in January and in the spring in Wisconsin. Burial will be in River Falls. Cremation Society of Wisconsin is in charge. Memorial donations may be made to Hastings College Foundation, Hastings, NE 68901.
