"x. Gershom5, b. in Medfield, 1745; m. 1778. Prudence Bullen, sister of Abigail, b. 1752; d. 1 Jan., 1815, age 62. He inherited a share of his father's farm; was a carpenter by trade, and an honest, industrious man, who often walked to Boston to work. He d. 10 Nov., 1834. He was undoubtedly a soldier of the Revolution, a private in Capt. Ephraim Cheney's Co., Col. J. Smith's Reg.; turned out April 19, 1775, and served 11 days; was drafted July 19, 1776, and paid a bounty; enlisted again Dec. 8, 1776, and was discharged Dec. 30th, also served 30 days in R. I., Oct. 1, 1777. He enlisted also. Aug. 3, 1780, in the 4th Suffolk Reg., and was dischaged Aug. 7."

Mann's co., Maj. Metcalf's regt.; enlisted Dec. 8, 1776; discharged Dec. 30, 1776; service, 23 days, on an alarm at Rhode Island; ordered to march to Court House, Providence, thence to Warwick Neck, R. I.; also, list of men who went on a secret expedition to Rhode Island for 30 days, from Oct. 1, 1777, agreeable to a warrant issued by Col. Hawes; reported drafted.
