ALVIN PERRY BEATY (Baty, Beatty) was born in Clinton Co., KY on August 4, 1841, the son of James P. and Emaline 'Hays' Beaty.
On May 11, 1856 Alvin's father died and around 1861 his mother moved the family to Scottsville, in Macoupin Co., IL.
On Aug. 13, 1862, Alvin enlisted as a pvt. in the Union Army, Co. B, 121st IL Inf. Volunteers. During his military career and in all of his correspondence with the government, he spelled his name Baty instead of Beatty. He was wounded in the right arm at the battle of Nashville on Dec. 16, 1864. According to family stories, after he was wounded, he was laid under the barrel of a cannon for the remainder of the battle and as a result lost most of his hearing from the loud blasts of cannon fire. He received a medical discharge on May 17, 1865 and returned home to Scottsville. According to his granddaughter, Alberta 'Parker' Johnson, his right arm was almost useless, and he had to use an ear trumpet to hear.
Alvin married Zerrildia Narciss Atteberry in Scottsville, IL on Oct. 15, 1866. She was born in Macoupin Co., IL on May 24, 1849 the daughter of Isaiah and Hannah 'Haggard-McLain' Atteberry.
Alvin and Zerrildia had 10 children: James Omos, Migno Maude, Isaiah Clyde, Bert Oliver, Perry Leroy, Willis Orkney, Lowell Fountain, Harry Hattress, Kyron Velsa, and Kada Velma.
In about 1873 Alvin moved his family to Johnson Co., NE and in 1887 and 1889, they were living in Covington, Smith Co., KS. In late 1889 or early 1890 Alvin moved back to Crab Orchard, NE where he appears on the 1890 NE "Special Schedule of Surviving, Soldiers, Sailors and Marines and Widows, etc." Then he appears as a Farmer, living in Vesta, Johnson Co., NE, on the 1890-91 Business Directory and Farmer's List of the Nebraska State Gazetteer.
Around 1898 the family moved to a farm in "Indian Territory" (now Grant Co., OK). Alvin and three of his sons opened "The Beatty Carpentry Shop" and helped establish the town of Nardin. Sometime between 1912 and 1916 they moved to Okla. City, OK.
Alvin Perry Beatty, died in Okla. City, OK on Apr. 30, 1922. He is buried in Pleasant Hill Cemetery (formerly know as the Atterbery Cemetery) in Sumner Co., KS
