When his only child, an adopted daughter, Joan Olive Robinson Hill, died suddenly in 1969 at the age of 38, Ash decided that Joan's third husband, plastic surgeon, John Hill, had murdered her in order to marry his mistress, Ann Kurth. It was rumored that when the court didn't give Ash Robinson the justice he sought, he had a hired killer, Bobby Vandiver, to get rid of John Hill in 1972. Vandiver was shot down by police before he could stand trial for Hill's murder. Lilla Paulus was convicted of arranging the crime. In August 1977, in a civil lawsuit filed by John Hill's mother, Myra, and his third wife, Connie, the decision came down that Ash Robinson was not responsible for John Hill's death.
