Hall of Fame Major League Baseball Player. He was the sixth of seven children born to John McPhee and Maria Button. He played for Cincinnati in the American Association and the National League from 1882 to 1899. He is regarded as the best second baseman of the 19th century. He married Julia Caroline Broermann on August 7, 1902, in Hamilton County, Ohio; they had no known children. He was elected to the Hall of Fame in March of 2000, more than 100 years after he finished his major league career.
