Woodley Lewis was selected by the Los Angeles Rams in the eighth round of the 1950 NFL Draft, becoming the third African-American ever drafted in the National Football League. He was with the Rams from 1950-1955. He also played with the Chicago Cardinals and Dallas Cowboys. In 1962, he invested in a 36-lane bowling alley with an adjacent restaurant and cocktail lounge at 1950 North Central Avenue, becoming one of the first African-American business owners in Compton.
