He wrote a number of screenplays for comedian John Bunny and also wrote for Fox, Universal and Warner Brother Movie studios using the name "Leslie S. Barrows". He also produced the films "Swiss Family Robinson" (1940), "Tom Brown's School Days" (1940), "Little Men" (1940), and "Valley of the Sun" (1942). He and his father Elwood are responsible for inventing the card game "Gin Rummy".
